High School Academics
High School Academics
Utah Virtual Academy (UTVA) knows success is not a single destination, and the journey can take many turns. But no matter the path, we believe in unlocking every learner’s potential by meeting them where they are and helping them reach their goals.
Preparing High School Students for College and Career
Career and Technical Education (CTE) gives high school students the chance to get a head start on preparing for college or a career. In CTE programs you will learn how core school subjects like math, science and writing are used in real-life. As a CTE student you have the opportunity to participate in hands-on training in your chosen program and gain real world experience. Many programs provide a chance for you to earn nationally recognized certifications which you can use to get a job, or help you pay for college, or begin your career as soon as you graduate from high school.
Get a Head Start by Earning College Credits Now
UTVA offers eligible high school students in grade 11 and 12 the opportunity to enroll in up to two courses per semester through local Applied Technology Colleges and Salt Lake Community College and apply college credit to both their school diploma and a post-secondary degree. Courses are offered at a low cost-per-credit, must align with the student’s graduation plan, and a “C” or better must be earned in order to receive credit.
Eligibility is based on the admissions policies of each institution; however, there is an approval process through UTVA to ensure the course is cleared for high school credit and to determine how it will be applied to the student’s transcript. Contact your counselor for more details.
Part-Time Option for High School
High school students may be eligible to take part-time courses through the Statewide Online Education Program (SOEP). For more information, visit our Part-Time SOEP page or talk to your school counselor.
